SoWeBo Festival (Sowebohemian Arts Festival), Hollins Market, Baltimore, MD — Sunday, May 25, 2003; hundreds of affordable Sesow works for sale

Back to SoWeBo, in the rain. Matt’s website that spring: “BALTIMORE: SOWEBO 2003 FESTIVAL: Sunday, May 25th (12noon - 9PM), hundreds of affordable works by sesow for sale.” His paintings filled the Hollins Market arcade again — print bins, face paintings on the pavement, kids digging through the boxes. He also shot a set of street photographs that day (the titled ones below, like “On Your Mark” and “Take Picture”).

Research notes

SoWeBo (the Sowebohemian Arts Festival) fills the streets around Hollins Market in Southwest Baltimore every year on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Matt sold paintings there for several years (2002–2005 are documented). It is where he met Ted Frankel of the American Visionary Art Museum and its SideShow gift shop — in Matt’s words, “a great reason why I am in avam.” AVAM first showed his paintings in October 2004.
Matt’s camera dates these photos May 25, 2003. The titled street photographs (“Being Followed,” “Lunch Ladies,” “Wheelies” and the rest) were edited and saved May 28–30, 2003.
